Południowoafrykański duet Die Antwoord, którzy tworzą Yolandi i Ninja (na zdjęciach), od ponad 10 lat przebojem wdarł się na światowe salony, wielokrotnie będąc gwiazdą najważniejszych festiwali świata. Ich teledyski i muzyka ociekały przemocą, pornografią i rasizmem, ale pokazywanymi z przymrużeniem oka. Raczej śmieszyły niż oburzały żarty z religii, pedofilii i satanizmu. Mimo, że robili to biali muzycy z kraju, gdzie do połowy lat 90 obowiązywał system apartheidu, czyli segregacji rasowej.
Przeboje takie jak „Banana brain”, „I Fink U Freeky” czy „Enter the Ninja” kupowały zespołowi miłość publiczności. Po prostu traktowano ich jak utalentowanych freaków z dalekiego afrykańskiego kraju.
Do czasu kiedy Ninja został oskarżony o homofobię i molestowanie seksualne, a adoptowany syn Ninjy i Yolandi oskarżył ich o molestowanie, niewolnictwo i zmuszanie do satanizmu. Koncerty zespołu są obecnie odwoływane z programów festiwali muzycznych i wygląda na to, że ich historia stanie się opowieścią o bajkowym wzlocie i bolesnym upadku. W dzisiejszym Placu na rozdrożu porozmawiamy o Die Antwoord i kulturze Republiki Południowej Afryki z afrykanistami: Jędrzejem Czerepem (PISM, Collegium Civitas) i pisarzem Tadeuszem Michrowskim.
