Pół wieku temu odbył się szachowy mecz stulecia. Przy szachownicy usiedli Amerykanin Bobby Fischer i broniący tytułu Rosjanin Borys Spasski. Nigdy wcześniej ani nigdy później - szachy nie skupiły na sobie takiej uwagi, a pojedynek w ramach rywalizacji szachowej, czy szerzej - sportowej - nie nabrał takiej symboliki - oczywiście w kontekście zimnej wojny. Nigdy więcej, w tej pięknej grze, nie pojawił się mistrz, będący tak blisko definicji szalonego geniusza. Szachownice nie będą potrzebne. Mamy nadzieję, że będzie to audycja dla wszystkich lubiących niesamowite historie! Te rzeczy - działy się naprawdę, a scenarzyści "Gambitu Królowej" z biografii Fischera czerpali całe fragmenty.
W Placu na rozdrożu kilku bardzo ciekawych gości, m.in. Garry Kasparov oraz żyjący świadkowie tamtych wydarzeń. Uda nam się również na chwilę skoczyć na Islandię .
